I’m Sick! I’m Not Feeling Well! So…
When it’s so obvious, don’t say it!
Months ago I attended a library conference, a great opportunity to learn new stuff, network with other library professionals, and catch up new technology trends.
I enjoyed the conference, especially the food, until this presentation started with a lady’s voice:
“Hello, I’m very sick, so please…”
I didn’t hear the last part clearly because the mic had some tech issues that day, and the lady spoke in a low voice.
When a person is beginning a presentation like this, I lose interest to listen right away. I believe that I am not the only one who is feeling this way.
When it's obvious, don’t say it!
Instead, let your listeners perceive it, notice it, become aware of it, and feel it. Your with the goal of gaining recognition. The core message to convey is simple:
Even though I’m not feeling well, I am confident I can handle this.
You are showing your character! You are showing your guts! Since you decide to present, go to interview, show on the stage, you must pull yourself together.
When you say something that is obvious, you put yourself first before others.
It’s not about yourself. It’s about them.
When you are sick, people will notice it. You don’t have to emphasize it. The best strategy is to pretend nothing happened and go as you prepare.
N0 say, just Do.
Same as you are interviewing, whether it is a Zoom call or face-to-face interview:
Don’t these!
I’m sick.I’m not feeling well.I’m not feeling the best.I may not perform well.Please don’t expect me to…
